By Iyad Tarazi, CEO, Federated Wireless
The shared spectrum industry reached an important milestone this week with Google’s announcement that it intends to exit the CBRS Spectrum Access System (SAS) business over the next twelve months.
First, I want to acknowledge Google’s contribution to the CBRS ecosystem. Building an entirely new spectrum-sharing framework was never a small undertaking. The creation of the CBRS band required innovation from regulators, wireless operators, equipment manufacturers, cloud providers, and SAS administrators alike. Google’s participation helped establish CBRS as one of the world’s leading dynamic spectrum-sharing initiatives.
As customers evaluate their next steps, I want to offer a simple message: the future of shared spectrum is strong, and Federated Wireless is committed to supporting every operator through this transition.
Today, Federated Wireless supports 397,034 CBRS devices, representing approximately 83% of the CBRS market. We have successfully migrated more than 180,000 devices from other SAS providers, giving us extensive experience helping operators transition seamlessly while maintaining service continuity. Today we support hundreds of operators across mobile, cable, fixed wireless, enterprise, industrial, federal, and private wireless networks.
For nearly a decade, our mission has been clear: unlock spectrum access through automation, intelligence, and innovation. While individual companies may enter or exit the market, the success of CBRS has never depended on any single organization. It is built on a strong regulatory foundation, a vibrant ecosystem, and growing demand for flexible, efficient spectrum access.
Those fundamentals remain firmly in place; In fact, we believe the industry is entering its next phase of growth.
Over the past several years, shared spectrum has evolved from a regulatory concept into a critical component of wireless infrastructure. Operators now depend on CBRS to improve mobile capacity, enable fixed wireless access, support private networks, modernize industrial operations, and deliver broadband to underserved communities.
At the same time, operator expectations have evolved. Customers increasingly require more than basic spectrum coordination. They are looking for platforms that can predict network performance, optimize spectrum utilization, automate planning, and improve user experience through artificial intelligence.
That future is already here.
At Federated Wireless, we have invested heavily in transforming spectrum management from a reactive coordination function into an intelligent optimization platform. Our innovations in AI-native network planning, predictive spectrum management, high-resolution digital twins, and automated performance optimization are helping operators extract more value from every megahertz of spectrum they own or share.
For Google SAS customers, this is more than a migration. It is an opportunity to modernize operations, improve network performance, and take advantage of the next generation of spectrum intelligence.
For customers currently evaluating their options, our commitment is straightforward:
- Seamless migration support backed by extensive transition experience.
- Proven reliability at national scale across hundreds of commercial deployments.
- Long-term investment in shared-spectrum innovation.
- A clear roadmap for AI-driven spectrum management and network optimization.
Most importantly, we remain committed to the principles that made CBRS successful in the first place: openness, innovation, efficient spectrum utilization, and industry collaboration.
The shared-spectrum market has moved well beyond experimentation. It has become an essential component of modern wireless networks. As the industry enters this next chapter, Federated Wireless is ready to help operators navigate the transition and realize the full potential of shared spectrum.
The future of wireless will require greater spectrum efficiency, more automation, and more intelligence than ever before. We are excited to help lead that future.
Thank you to our customers, partners, and the broader CBRS community for helping build one of the most innovative wireless ecosystems in the world.
The best is yet to come.
